2022 Top Three Journey
A journey list not a goals list or a retropsective. A reminder list for when days go sideways
What this is and what this is not
This is something new I am trying, this is for me to come back to when I have bad days, when I need to re-focus, and even when I have good days. It is not a goals list, and it not meant to be a retrospective list for 2023. I am going to list 3 things each year that I will try to build upon based on where I am now and where I aspire to be.
mantra
qui non proficit deficit
— Old Latin saying
qui non proficit deficit is a saying I have engrained in me since high school at St. Georges College. Loosely translated it means “he who does not move forward moves backwards” but the more literal meaning and the one I hold is “who does not advances looses ground” which is more meaningful because you do not have to move backwards to loose ground… if you stand still and those around you advance, you automatically loose ground in the larger picture.
I like 3’s when I need to do something, no… its not quite OCD, its proven out by others. See the “3 rules of 3” by Alan Alda here
- say no more than 3 points
- say difficult (important) things 3 different ways
- say difficult (important) things 3 times
Remember
- Prioritize physical and mental health - drink more water, eat healthier food, be more meditative
- Be Intentional - focus on the right things at the appropriate time
- Employ First Principle thinking - Break things down to its lowest denominator and reason upwards
1 - Prioritize physical and mental health
It is proportionally difficult to take care of others if you yourself need to be taken care of
— Fabianism circa 2022
2 - Be Intentional
If 2020 and 2021 taught us anything, one of its lessons surely must be that time is a precious commodity, use your time efficiently and focus on what has greater impact
— Fabianism circa 2022
3 - First Principle Thinking
Well, I do think there’s a good framework for thinking. It is physics. You know, the sort of first principles reasoning. Generally I think there are — what I mean by that is, boil things down to their fundamental truths and reason up from there, as opposed to reasoning by analogy
— Elon Musk1
